La Galería Guijarro de Pablo se complace en presentar la obra nueva de la artista española María García-Ibáñez en la exposición individual titulada Arada. La inauguración se celebrará el sábado, 31 de enero de 4-8 pm y estará en exhibición hasta el 21 de marzo del 2015. A lo largo de su trayectoria, María García-Ibáñez ha reflexionado sobre diversos temas de su interés como la orografía, los espacios habitables y las estructuras orgánicas en los seres vivos. En esta exposición, la artista continua estas investigaciones incorporando algunas especulaciones sobre las distintas formas de praxis cercanas a los rituales, a los trabajos manuales y a los procesos cotidianos que se manifiestan en los ciclos vitales. L...as obras que conforman Arada reflexionan en torno al poder de la repetición y al proceso de creación. El petate, un tejido hecho a mano con fibras de palma, es un elemento central en esta muestra por ese carácter repetitivo y por su funcionalidad variable. Desde muy antiguo, el petate ha servido como lecho para dormir, receptáculo para el parto, soporte para hacer tortillas y por último, como envoltorio definitivo de los que mueren. A través del análisis de la elaboración de la tejeduría doméstica, y mediante el empleo de métodos demandantes de tiempo en la creación de sus propios dibujos, García-Ibáñez presenta una meditación en, y a través de, los procesos que muestra. García-Ibáñez ha mostrado su trabajo a nivel internacional incluyendo exposiciones individuales en su país de origen, España (Tierras Continuas, Galeria AJG, 2014), en México (Windgällen, Galeria Distrito 14, 2013) y Hong Kong (Micrographia, Puerta Roja & Cat Street Gallery, 2013). La artista también ha participado en exposiciones colectivas como “Fühlst du nicht an meinen liedern, dass ich eins und doppelt bin?”, Peter Kilchmann, Zurich, Suiza (2015); The Conquest of the Impossible, Mogosoaia Cultural Center, Bucarest, Rumanía (2015); Ruta Mística en el Museo Amparo, Puebla, México (2014) y en el Museo Arte Contemporáneo MARCO, Monterrey, México (2013); The Prehistory of the Image, STUK, Lovaina, Bélgica. García-Ibáñez también ha recibido varios premios y becas y recientemente fue seleccionada para la XI Bienal de Monterrey, FEMSA (2014). _______________________________________________ Guijarro de Pablo Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by María García-Ibáñez entitled Arada. The opening will take place on Saturday, January 31st from 4pm to 8pm and will be on display until March 21st, 2015. Throughout her career, García-Ibáñez has meditated and reflected on various subjects from orography, habitable spaces, to the human body. In this exhibition, the artist deepens these investigations to include speculations on forms of praxis engaging through ritual, craftwork, and seemingly mundane processes that shape our own involvements with the rhythms and stages of life. The works included in Arada draw attention to the power of pattern and process. The petate, a bedroll woven from the fibers of the petate palm, is a central figure in this exhibition because of its repetitive nature and multiple uses in everyday life. Since antiquity, the petate has been used as a bed, a receptacle during childbirth, a support to make tortillas, and even as a wrapping for bodies in their final sleep. It is through an aesthetically detailed analysis on domestic weaving and the employment of time-consuming methods of creation, that García-Ibáñez introduces a meditation on and through the processes she hopes to demonstrate. María García-Ibáñez has exhibited globally including solo exhibitions in her natal country Spain (Tierras Continuas, Galeria AJG, 2014), Mexico (Windgällen, Galeria Distrito 14, 2013), and Hong Kong (Micrographia, Puerta Roja & Cat Street Gallery, 2013). The artist has also participated in important collective exhibitions including Fühlst du nicht an meinen liedern, dass ich eins und doppelt bin?”, Peter Kilchmann, Zurich, Switzerland (2015); The Conquest of the Impossible, Mogosoaia Cultural Center, Bucharest, Romania (2015); Ruta Mistica in Museo Arte Contemporáneo MARCO, Monterrey, Mexico (2014) and in Museo Amparo, Puebla (2013); The Prehistory of the Image, STUK, Leuven, Belgium.
