Cristina de Middel

(Alicante 1975)

Cristina de Middel (nació en 1975 en Alicante, España) es una fotógrafa documental y artista que vive y trabaja en Londres, Reino Unido

 

En su primer libro, Los Afronautas, De Middel acopla con mitos y verdades, la realidad y la ficción. En 1964, después de obtener la independencia, Zambia inició un programa espacial con el fin de enviar el primer astronauta de África a la luna. De Middel acompaña  su hermosa fotografía en color con documentos manipulados, dibujos y reproducciones de cartas, presentándolos como incrustaciones casi folclóricas junto a ilustraciones de moda y dibujos técnicos.

 

Cristina De Middel tiene un  Master en Fotografía por la Universidad de Oklahoma (2000), es Licenciada en  Bellas Artes por la Universidad de Valencia, España (2001), y  tiene un postgrado en Fotoperiodismo de en la Universidad Politécnica de Barcelona, España (2002). Además de los proyectos personales, De Middel ha trabajado para publicaciones como Esquire y Foam, así como diversas organizaciones no gubernamentales. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido por el Premio Nacional de Fotoperiodismo Juan Cancelo (2009), Fnac El talento fotográfico (2009) y el Humble Arts Women in Photography Project Grant (2011). Fue finalista en el Open Call GuatePhoto, Guatemala (2012), ganadora del PhotoPholio en  las  Recontres de la Photographie, Arles, en 2012 y volvió allí como artista participante el año siguiente. También fue finalista del Deutsche Börse Photography prize y obtuvo el Infinity Award otorgado por el International Center of Photography de Nueva York a la major publicación del 2012. El último libro de Cristina De Middel, “Party” recibió el premio al major libro de fotografía en la categorya Internacional en PhotoEspaña 2014.

Cristina de Middel (born in 1975 in Alicante, Spain) is a documentary photographer and artist who lives and works in London, UK

 

In her first book, The Afronauts, De Middel engages with myths and facts, reality and fiction. In 1964, after gaining independence, Zambia initiated a space program to send the first African astronaut to the moon. De Middel accompanies her beautiful color photographs with manipulated documents, drawings and reproductions of letters, presenting them as almost folkloric inlaid with fashion illustrations and technical drawings.

 

Cristina De Middel holds a Masters in Photography from the University of Oklahoma (2000), has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Valencia, Spain (2001), and has a degree in Photojournalism at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona, Spain (2002). In addition to personal projects, De Middel has worked for publications such as Esquire and Foam and various NGOs. Her work has been recognized with the National Prize for Photojournalism Juan Cancelo (2009), Fnac's photographic talent (2009) and Women in Photography Humble Arts Project Grant (2011). She was finalist in the Open Call GuatePhoto, Guatemala (2012), winner of PhotoPholio in Recontres de la Photographie, Arles, in 2012 and returned there as a participating artist the following year. She was also a finalist of Deutsche Börse Photography prize and got the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York for the best publication of 2012. The last book by Cristina De Middel, "Party" received the award for best photography book International category in PhotoEspaña 2014.
