Carlos Irijalba (Pamplona, 1979) Se gradua en la Universidad del Pais Vasco y UDK Berlin (profesor Lothar Baumgarten) 2002. Actualmente es residente en la Rijksakademie de Amsterdam 2013/2014. Galardonado con la Beca Marcelino Botin 2007/08, el premio Purificacion Garcia 2009 y Generaciones 2009, entre otros. Ha expuesto recientemente en centros internacionales como el CCCB de Barcelona, Yokohama Art Center de Japón, el Herzliya Museum Israel o LMCC Nueva York.

 

Su trabajo analiza el modo en que la sociedad Occidental recrea un media abstracto que pierde toda relación excepto para consigo misma. En proyectos como Twilight y Unwilling Spectator trabaja entre la experiencia relativa de tiempo y espacio y la construcción colectiva de lo real.

 

En proyectos recientes analiza un cambio de perspectiva frente a un territorio concreto. Una fina superficie de cambio respecto a la historia, no política ni social, sino geológica, una medida de tiempo donde toda intervención de escala humana se desdibuja y se convierte, por ahora, en superficie. La experiencia de ese tiempo hecho relieve, pone acotaciones temporales propias de la geología junto a lapsos contemporáneos más próximos a nuestra escala como son los lapsos vitales, estacionales o urbanísticos. Un análisis del “nosotros” como agente activo autoconsciente.

Carlos Irijalba (Pamplona, ​​1979) graduated from the University of the Basque Country and UDK Berlin (Prof. Lothar Baumgarten) 2002. He is currently on a residency at the  Amsterdam Rijksakademie 2013/2014.  He has been awarded  Marcelino Botin Scholarship 2007/08 and the Purification Garcia and Generations 2009 Award 2009, among others. He has recently exhibited at international centers such as Barcelona CCCB, Yokohama Art Center of Japan, the Herzliya Museum Israel or LMCC New York.

His work examines how Western society recreates an abstract medium without references outside itself. In projects like Twilight and Unwilling Spectator, He works between the relative experience of time and space and the collective construction of reality.

In recent projects his work focuses on analyzing the  change in perspective on a specific territory. A thin surface change from history, not political or social, but geological, a measure of time where any human scale intervention fades and becomes, then  that time surface. .That time experience, manifested as a surface relief, setstime frames that combine tose  natural to geology with those closer to the human scale, such as vital, seasonal periods or urban contemporary periods. An analysis of "us" as self-conscious active agents.
