'Indiscutiblemente, el campo de acción del trabajo de Fernando M. Romero (Córdoba, 1978) es la pintura, un territorio que ha sabido ampliar primero desbordando los límites del cuadro en el espacio y ahora entreverando sus imágenes con fotografías. Aunque la problemática de cada ámbito requiere posiciones distintas, existe en todos sus trabajos un componente sintáctico, intrínseco al lenguaje pictórico, que se mantiene invariable desde sus inicios. Sus preocupaciones son de orden conceptual antes que procedimentales, por eso lo que encontramos en su obra es un permanente cuestionamiento del medio que rebate no sólo sus fronteras, sino también la manera en que se construye una representación artística o es percibida por el espectador. Lejos de la ortodoxia canónica del género, sus planteamientos van acumulando estratos de complejidad hasta confundir el carácter de sus piezas, que en muchos casos no son ni una cosa ni la otra, sino más bien una mezcla amplificada de valores diferentes que superan las preocupaciones habituales de la pintura para adentrarse por otros derroteros más profundos que nos hacen pensar sobre lo que vemos y cómo se construye la realidad al modo en el que lo describe John Berger, evitando los juicios preestablecidos y asumiendo el peso de la contemporaneidad.'

'Fernando M. Romero's field of action is undoubtedly Painting, although he has managed to extend it beyond the boundaries of the frame into space, as a territory now blending image with photographs. Although each environment requires specific and distinct positions, his work always encompasses a syntax component, intrinsic to the language of painting, a characteristic of his production that has remained a constant since his beginnings. His preoccupations are conceptual over procedural, therefore his work constantly questions the medium of painting not only extending its boundaries but also enquiring about the way artistic representation is constructed and moreover how it is perceived by the spectator. Far from the classic orthodoxy of the genre, his approaches accumulate layers of complexity to the point of confusing the reading of the piece, which becomes neither one thing or another, but rather an amplified mix of different values that transcend the usual preoccupations of painting entering into a reflection on how we perceived, see and construct reality, in the way described by John Berger, avoiding pre-established conceptions and assuming the weight of the contemporary.'
