Luis Adelantado Valencia se complace en invitarles a la inauguración de la exposición colectiva A Certain State of Mind en la que se darán cita una serie de artistas contemporáneos que nos invitarán a reflexionar en torno a la idea de percepción y las múltiples lecturas que la alteración de la misma puede ofrecer. Este co-comisariado entre Solene Guillier (gb agency) y Olga Adelantado, consigue reunir a artistas con una trayectoria internacional a destacar. Esta trampa visual se conceptualiza desde la visión de los siguientes artistas;
Ting-Ting Cheng, Ryan Gander, Mark Geffriaud, Rubén Guerrero, Roman Ondák y el recién incorporado a la galería valenciana Yann Sérandour.
En la exposición se mostrarán piezas en distintos soportes, veremos instalación, fotografía, luz e ironía. Bien cierto es, que en las dosis adecuadas la ironía forma parte de la percepción, de sus matices y de las ideas complejas y cotidianas a la vez que se materializan en los trabajos conceptuales. Encontraremos una cierta transgresión serena, unos límites desdibujados que se completan con la mirada del espectador. Podremos ver los trabajos más recientes de la taiwanesa Ting -Ting Cheng, artista de la galería desde 2013. Su serie de fotografías You See What I See nos invita a reflexionar en torno al control de la información. La sutileza, no esconde la realidad, el poder de la palabra para dirigir nuestras ideas y, por ende, nuestra actitud. Su trabajo entronca con la propuesta del consolidado artista francés Mark Geffriaud, quien plantea un material editorial que, a su vez, nunca fue concebido para su distribución. Una edición que se convierte en el objeto de arte soñado por el artista.
Con un trabajo de una gran meticulosidad que le acerca en cierta medida a una labor historiográfica, se encuentra Yann Sérandour. Su trabajo para la muestra, nos interpela y nos devuelve un reflejo cuyos límites son indefinidos. Su instalación Untitled entronca con un ensayo en torno al artista conceptual Daniel Buren.
En una especie de trampantojo que apela a nuestro intelecto, la instalación del artista eslovaco Roman Ondák genera una conversación ficticia con la directora de la galería, en una pieza única. Ligado a esta irónica idea de trampa visual, se mostrará el trabajo del conocido artista Ryan Gander por primera vez en Valencia. Su proceso de experimentación artístico busca recomponer el espacio a partir de materiales dislocados (un globo de fibra de vidrio suspendido, lámparas diseñadas con objetos cotidianos, una caja de alquimia…). En esa línea, el artista de la galería Rubén Guerrero avanza en su investigación en torno a los límites de la pintura en el s. XXI, y presenta tres lienzos en los que reivindica el gesto de lo efímero como parte de la pintura.
Sobre los artistas
Ting-Ting Cheng (Taiwán, 1985). Afincada en Londres donde ha cursado un MFA en fotografía en el Goldsmiths College. Con su juventud sus obras forman parte de la colección del Museo de Bellas artes de Taipei y el Museo Nacional de Taiwan, ha participado en ferias de arte y exposiciones colectivas en Europa y Asia. En los últimos cuatro años ha expuesto individualmente en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Taipei, en la Grand Siecle (Taiwan), Identity (Hong Kong), Rowan Arts (Londres), Before Exhibition (Hungría).
Ryan Gander (1976, Inglaterra). Galardonado artista conceptual británico, entre ellos el prestigioso
premio de Arte Zúrich (2009), el Premio Bâloise de Art Basel (2006) o el premio ABN AMRO (2006).
En los últimos años ha consolidado su carrera con casi cuarenta exhibiciones individuales y medio centenar de colectivas en los últimos cinco años. Hoy, enseña en la Royal Academy de Londres.
Mark Geffriaud (1977, Francia ). Trabaja con la asociación como forma de componer sus obras explorando lo arbitrario de la forma institucional de construir significados. Ha expuesto individualmente en Palais de Tokyo (Paris) y gb agency. De forma colectiva ha participado en la Biennal de Lyon y en el Centro Pompidou (París).
Roman Ondák (1966, Eslovaquia). Importantes son sus pasos por el estado español: en 2013 intervino el Palacio de Cristal para el Museo Reina Sofía; también ha participado en el CA2M de Madrid y en Invocable Reality en el MACBA (Barcelona). En los últimos años ha protagonizado exposiciones en el Museo Tamayo (México), el Deutsche Guggenheim (Berlín), en el Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris y en la Kunsthaus de Zúrich.
Yann Sérandour (Francia, 1974). Segunda intervención tras la individual de la temporada pasada en la galería Luis Adelantado. También tuvo una exposición individual en el (Centro Nacional de Arte Impreso) CNEAI en Chatou en 2007 y en el Palais de Tokio en 2008, Francia. Su obra se encuentra en varias colecciones públicas, a destacar: Fonds national dart contemporain, Puteaux; CGAC Santiago de Compostela.
Rubén Guerrero (España, 1976). Emergiendo desde la escuela sevillana de pintura ha presentado su obra pictórica en exposiciones individuales en Shanghai, Roma, México DF, Sao Paulo y Miami.Con creciente reconocimiento en su gesto pictórico, Guerrero forma parte de las colecciones DKV, Fundación CocaCola, Fundación Cañada Blanch y la Real Maestranza de Sevilla.

Luis Adelantado Valencia is pleased to invite you to the opening of the collective exhibition A Certain State of Mind, where a number of contemporary artists come together in order to invite us to reflect on the notion of perception and the multiple readings offered by its alterations.
The showing—co-curated by Solene Guillier (gb agency) and Olga Adelantado—has managed to bring together artists with a distinguished international career. This visual trap is conceptualized from the perspective of the following artists: Ting-Ting Cheng, Ryan Gander, Mark Geffriaud, Rubén
Guerrero, Roman Ondák and the newly incorporated Yann Sérandour.
The exhibition will display pieces in different formats: installation, photography, light and irony. The truth is that—in appropriate doses—irony is a part of perception, its nuances and complex and everyday ideas, while it is also materialized in conceptual works. We here find a calmed transgression, blurred limits, which are completed by the viewer’s gaze.
We will view the most recent works of Ting-Ting Cheng, a Taiwanese artist who has collaborated with our gallery since 2013. His series of pictures You See What I See invites us to reflect on the control on information found in public libraries books: subtlety, not hiding reality, the power of words to direct our thoughts and therefore our attitude. His work is related to the approach of consolidated French artist Mark Geffriaud, who presents editorial material which was never meant for distribution. A publication that becomes the art object dreamt by the artist.
With his distinctive meticulous work—which brings him to some extent closer to a historiographical labor—, we find Yann Sérandour. His artwork for this exhibition challenges us and returns a reflection of undefined limits. His Untitled installation is linked to an essay about the conceptual artist Daniel Buren.
In a kind of illusion that appeals to our intellect, the installation of Slovakian artist Roman Ondák generates in a single piece a fictional conversation with the director of the gallery. Linked to this ironic idea of a visual trap, the work of renowned artist Ryan Gander will be displayed for the first time in Valencia. His artistic experimentation process seeks to rebuild space through dislocated materials (a suspended fiberglass balloon, lamps designed with everyday objects, an alchemy box…). In that vein, the gallery artist Ruben Guerrero goes forward in his research on the limits of painting in the 21st century and presents three paintings in which he vindicates the gesture of the ephemeral as a part of painting.
About the artists
Ting-Ting Cheng (Taiwan, 1985). Lives in London, where he completed an MFA in photography at Goldsmiths College. Although very young, his works form part of the Taipei Museum of Fine Arts collection, as well as that of the National Taiwan Museum. He has participated in several art fairs and exhibitions in Europe and Asia. In the last four years, he has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts in Taipei, the Grand Siecle (Taiwan), Identity (Hong Kong), Rowan Arts (London) and the Before Exhibition (Hungary).
Ryan Gander (1976, England). Award-winning British conceptual artist, whose awards include the prestigious Zurich Art award (2009), the Bâloise Art Prize of Basel (2006) and the ABN AMRO prize (2006). In the last five years, he has consolidated his career with nearly forty solo and collective exhibitions. He today—also—teaches at the Royal Academy in London.
Mark Geffriaud (1977, France). Works with the concept of association as a way of composing his works, exploring the arbitrariness of the institutional way of building meaning. He has had solo exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris) and the gb agency. He has also participated collectively in the Biennale de Lyon and the Centre Pompidou (Paris).
Roman Ondák (1966, Slovakia). His steps in Spain have been significant, in 2013, he participated in Reina Sofia Museum’s Crystal Palace. He has also participated in CA2M in Madrid and Invocable Reality at MACBA (Barcelona). In recent years, he featured in exhibitions at the Museo Tamayo (Mexico), the Deutsche Guggenheim (Berlin), the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and Kunsthaus Zurich.
Yann Sérandour (France, 1974). Second participation after his last season solo exhibition at Galería Luis Adelantado. He also had solo exhibitions at the CNEAI (National Center of Printed Art) in Chatou in 2007 and the Palais de Tokyo in 2008 in France. His works can be found in several public collections, including: Fonds national dart contemporain, Puteaux and CGAC Santiago de Compostela.
Ruben Guerrero (Spain, 1976). Emerging from the Seville school of painting, he has presented his paintings in solo exhibitions in Shanghai, Rome, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Miami. Experiencing growing recognition for his pictorial prowess, Guerrero’s works form part of the DKV, CocaCola Foundation, Cañada Blanch Foundation and the Real Maestranza de Sevilla. collections
