“Foreing office” es la segunda exposición individual de la artista madrileña Teresa Solar. En “Foreign office” Solar presenta cerámicas que materializan lenguaje de signos. A partir de esta premisa, Solar desarrolla a través de la fotografía y de la escultura una serie de obras que tienen que ver con la traducción de signos, formas y superficies de unos espacios a otros y con la resistencia que estos ejercen a ser traducidos.
“Foreign office” parte del incidente protagonizado por Thamsanqa Jantjie, intérprete de signos sudafricano, durante la ceremonia en honor a Nelson Mandela, que había muerto recientemente. Durante la ceremonia, presidida por algunos de algunos de los jefes de Estado más poderosos del mundo, el intérprete perdió el control de sus manos y comenzó a gestualizar mensajes inconexos y absurdos.
Solar parte de este incidente para retomar sus reflexiones acerca del lenguaje y sus traducciones. En este caso se sirve de la tactilidad y la gestualidad propias del lenguaje de signos para crear vasijas y esculturas que no representan lenguaje tanto como que son propiamente lenguaje. A través de su experiencia con el torno de alfarero, Solar graba interpretaciones de los gestos de Jantjie sobre el barro revolucionado, experimentando la resistencia del material a ser modelado y desarrollando musculatura específica para no perder el control sobre las pellas. Fruto de esta aproximación son las piezas RUNRUN y FAFAFA, traducciones erróneas de los gestos del intérprete subidas a Internet....

'Foreign office is the second solo show of the Spanish artist Teresa Solar Abboud. In Foreign office Solar presents ceramics that materialize sign language. Solar develops through photography and sculpture a series of works that have to do with translating signs, shapes and surfaces to different spaces and with the resistance of these elements to being translated.
"Foreign office" takes as a starting point the incident involving Thamsanqa Jantjie, South African sign interpreter, during the memorial for Nelson Mandelan, who had recently died. During the ceremony attended by some of the most powerful world leaders the interpreter lost control of his hands and started to make absurd and incoherent gestures.
Solar uses this incident to resume her reflections on language and translation. In this case she uses the tactility of sign languge to create pots and sculptures that don’t represent language but that are strictly language. Through the potters wheel, Solar records interpretations of Janitje’s gestures over the spinning clay, experiencing the resistance of the material to being modeled and developing specific muscles to gain control over the lump of clay. RUNRUN and FAFAFA are the result of this process as they are wrong translations of the interpreter’s gestures found on the internet....
